Help with reading a pattern for mittens

Hello group

From the following pattern : http://www.creativeknittingmagazine.com/newsletters-proofing.php?mode=issue&issue_id=381&department_id=75

There is a pattern stitch:
Waffle Rib (multiple of 5 sts)
Rnds 1 and 2: Knit.
Rnds 3-6: *K1, p3, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep Rows 1-6 for pat.

I can’t figure out this directive: Rep Inc rnd [every 3rd rnd] 2 (5, 7) times, then [every 4th rnd] 2 (1, 0) times. (11, 15, 17 sts between markers)

Rep Inc rnd every 3rd rnd : do I continue the pattern stitch where I would now be at rnd 3 = 1st inc rnd, rnd 4 = 2nd inc rnd, rnd 5 = 3rd inc rnd so I increase and then make rnd 6 to finish the pattern stitch?

Does this make any sense?!?

Lyne :help:

Thank you so much for the pattern link. The increase rounds are going to be more spaced out than that.
Which size are you making?

Women, the one with inc 5 times.

OK, call the first Inc rnd, round 1. Increase on round 1, 4,7,10,13,16 and finally 20.

Ok thank you! So I continue with the pattern stitch which has 6 rnds and while knitting the pattern stitch I will inc on the rounds you mentioned (1, 4 7 etc)?

Yes, the pattern stitch continues in the hand of the mitten. All the increases are knit sts on the thumb gusset.

Hello Salmonmac,

Just wanted to let you know that my mittens are coming along very well!

Thanks again for your quick and very useful help!
