Help With Reading a Chart

Hi,

I’m trying to knit this scarf http://www.kidsknits.com/free/cherryleaf.htm and the chart seems simple enough to follow. The only thing I don’t get is, for example, row 1. When I finish row 1, I still have a bunch of extra stitches left. Do I repeat row one, or do I finish the extra stitches by moving on to the 2nd row?

Also, I know you’re supposed to read these things right to left, but do I start from where it says stitch 1 (on the left) or read it how it’s supposed to be read?

The chart you are working on doesn’t simply move across from one side and then back.

You need to repeat the middle section by following the numbers. You start at stitch number 1 and knit to stitch number 17 reading the chart from right to left. Then you read the chart from right to left again but start at stitch number 18 and knit to stitch number 27. Then knit from right to left again and knit from stitch 28 and to the end of the chart at stitch number 45.
