Is it the directions to “patt” x number of sts that’s the problem? It means to work those stitches so that the pattern you’ve established in the previous 9 rows continues.
Or maybe I’m imagining those letters? Yes, just typing that line out would help us.
Hi all, thanks for your swift response. I’ve typed out from Row 1 in case anything is missed out. The problem I’m facing is on Row 10 where it says “Patt 8”. To cryptic for a newbie like me. Hehe!

1st Row. * K2, p2, rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
2nd Row. P2, * k2, p2, rep from * to end.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as 2x2 rib.
Work in 2x2 rib for 3cm, (1 1/4in), ending with a rs row.
Next Row. Rib to end inc 1 st*in centre of row. [67] sts.
Change to 4mm needles and proceed as follows:-
1st Row. P15, C4B, C4F, p2, k17, p2, C4B, C4F, p15.
2nd Row. K1, (m3, p3tog) 3 times, k2, p8, k21, p8, k2, (p3tog, m3) 3 times, k1.
3rd Row. P15, k8, p2, k17, p2, k8, p15.
4th Row. K1, (p3tog, m3) 3 times, k2, p8, k2, p17, k2, p8, k2, (m3, p3tog) 3 times, k1.
5th Row. P15, C4F, C4B, p2, k17, p2, C4F, C4B, p15.
6th Row. K1, (m3, p3tog) 3 times, k2, p8, k2, p17, k2, p8, k2, (p3tog, m3) 3 times, k1.
7th Row. P15, k8, p2, k17, p2, k8, p15.
8th Row. K1, (p3tog, m3) 3 times, k2, p8, k21, p8, k2, (m3, p3tog) 3 times, k1.
From 1st to 8th row sets position of cable panel over 8 sts.
Keeping continuity of cable panel as set (throughout) proceed as follows:-
9th Row. As 1st row.
10th Row. K1, (m3, p3tog) 3 times, k2, patt 8, k2, p17, k2, patt 8, k2, (p3tog, m3) 3 times, k1.

Yes, “patt” means to continue the pattern of sts that you have been doing on that column of 8 sts. In this pattern it’s knit on the front and purl on the back with the cable crosses on rows 1 and 5. Keep track of which pattern row (row 1-8) you’re on as you knit the following rows so that you’ll know when to do the cable crosses and they’ll be evenly spaced. You can use a row counter or a paper and pencil.
Sounds like a wonderful pattern for a cardigan.

I am so excited…I look here 6 years later and here is the exact pattern that I am having trouble with. What exactly should I be doing on row 10 where it says patt8…should I be doing row 2 as above?

When the directions say to pattern across some number of sts, it means to work those sts as they present themselves. That means to knit the Vs and purl the bumps as you see them on the current row.

It looks like the “patt 8” is the reverse side of the cable, so it’s purl 8. Row 10 isn’t the same as row 2.
