Can someone help. Can’t get my head around reverse shaping
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
You can quote a line or two of the shaping directions that should be reversed if you’d like.
For example, you can usually reverse the shaping of a cardigan front by starting at the opposite end of a row. So if the right armhole is shaped at the beginning of a wrong side row, the left armhole is shaped at the beginning of a right side row.
It may be a pattern from Peter Pan? Can you give us the pattern number, designer or publisher?
Where do you have a question, cardigan fronts, sleeves, somewhere else?
Yes sure.
So i am doing the Left Front.
Pattern number P253.
A Wendy design
Hope this helps . Thank you .
Even so, there seem to be several patterns called that. Is it this?
And we need more detail about your question. You can quote the part of the pattern you want help with, just not large sections of the pattern due to copyright. Or take a pic of that section, maybe?
Sorry about that. Yes that is the pattern I am doing the Lemon middle size.
Sorry. Pattern number P253 Wendy design in DK.
I am doing the lemon one and I am on the Left Front.
Thank you
You’re currently working on the left front and the directions say to mirror the directions for the right front? Is that correct?
Can you post the directions for shaping the right front so that we know how to figure out the left front shaping? Just give us the shaping, not a large portion of the pattern due to designer copyright please.
Perfect, thank you.
For the left front the pattern works out to:
Row 1 K4, (k2, k2tog, yfwd, k1) x6
Row 3 K4 (k2, yfwd,ssk,k1) x6
Row 5 is as Row 1
Now you will repeat rows 3-6.
Row 3 (first repeat) K9 (k2,yfwd, ssk, k1) x5
Row 5 (first repeat) K9, (k2, k2tog, yfwd, k1) x5
I’ve reversed the lace pattern as well as the placement of the repeats. Each time you repeat rows 3-6 there will be one fewer repeat of the lace panel and the knit sts at the beginning of the row will increase by 5sts. If that’s confusing, come back and ask when you get to that point. We’ll be happy to help.
I had already replied in the post before your last one (post #12) with the pattern continuation. See post #11 above.
OK thank you I will give that a go.
Thank you so much for your help.
Much appreciated
Good luck with it and let us know how it’s going. It’s such a cute sweater and neat little lace pattern.
Hi that was very helpful thank you.
Please can you help with the last bit and beginning Shape Armhole and Front for the Left Front? When I cast off it is the wrong side for the Armhole ?
For the left front, cast off at the beginning of a right side (RS) row. That will be at the beginning of a knit row. This will be the armhole edge.
You can place the right front down on a table and place the left front next to it with the public sides (knit sides) facing you. For the right front the cast off at the armhole is on the left edge as you look at the piece. For the left front, the cast off is on the right edge.
I understand what you mean because that’s what I thought. But the pattern says cast off 3sts purl to end. So if do ut on a knit row then purl that row then follow the pattern rows 1-4 is that OK.
For the left front with the public side facing, cast off 3sts at the beginning of the row.
Purl the next row.
Row 1 K1, k2tog, knit to the last 2 sts, k2tog
Row 2 Purl
Row 3 K1, k3tog, knit to the end of row.
Row 4 Purl
Repeat these last 4 rows twice more. For this left front the beginning of row is the armhole edge. The end of row is the front edge.
