help with pattern

image
(working on the first row)
I’ve got two extra stitches and figure it has something to do with this insert.
So trying to read this pattern. it says Insert leaf chart
It is right side so I pearled 9 knit 1 pearled two (added the yo, knit 1, yo) then P6
now I am thinking I should read it left to right.
Is this how to approach this pattern
Here is the full pattern. I am taking on quite a challenge with this one.

That is quite a challenge but such a magnificent result.
There are going to be two extra stitches in row 1 (and 2 more in each of rows 3 and 5). The extra stitches won’t be accounted for until you get to the decreases in rows 9,11 and 13.
Since this is a right side (RS) row, you should be working right to left across the chart:
p6, yo, k1, yo, p2, k1, p9.
Use lots of markers and have fun with this lovely blanket!

This project is totally a one step at a time one… I’ve made silly mistakes so lots of undoing and redoing though I love it …I wouldn’t want it any other way… thanks so much! It makes sense now
