Hi, is anyone able to help with the LDR please.?
Im OK on step 1,but don’t und about the dropping of 1st stitch in step 2.
Thanks Jane

In step 1, knit the 1st and 3rd sts together but don’t drop them off the left needle. There’s one new loop on the right needle.
2. let only the first stitch (the one nearest the left needle tip) drop off the needle tip
3. knit the 2nd stitch (it’ll now be the stitch closest to the left needle tip and let it slide off the left needle. There are 2 new loops on the right needle.
4. drop the 3rd stitch off the left needle.

What is the name of your pattern?

Hi
It’s Maddie Lane, Flatter me vest, pattern. What I didn’t understand, is what happens to the stitches you drop off?
Thanks

You’ve pulled a new loop through the 1st and 3rd sts so just as you would normally knit a stitch, the old stitch drops off the needle. It’s secured by the new stitch.
You’ve knit the 2nd stitch so that too has a new loop pulled through it and the old stitch can drop off the needle.
Give it a try on a swatch so you can see how it all works before you try it on your knitting.

Thanks for the help
I will try on a swatch as you suggested.

That’s great. So helpful. It’s looking OK, I think. But I’ve now realised that I think I’m doing the LDL wrong… Its not shaping up as the other side!! I’ve got a cable needle, but obviously doing something wrong… Thanks in advance.

These are going to be very elegant decrease details. You’re essentially knitting stitch 2, then working a ssk on sts 1 and 3.

Stitch 1 goes on a cable needle held in front.
Knit stitch 2.
Stitch 1 and 3 are then worked as ssk. In the directions, pay attention to the direction in which to slip these sts (knitwise).

Yes, maybe it’s the direction I’ve done wrong. Will try again. Thank you.

I’m think the LDR is shaping up, but don’t know what I’ve done with the LDL… :frowning:

I’ll give them a try and see what I get.

LDR is on the right, LDL on the left in the photo.

Do you have any idea what I’ve done wrong at all?
Thanks

I found that the most difficult part of the LDL is in the orientation of the sts.
It may be easier in step 3 where you slip the stitch from the cable needle onto the right needle to replace that with slipping the stitch purlwise onto the left needle. That’s what you usually do with a cable anyway.
Then work the ssk as given above. Slip the sts one at a time knitwise onto the right needle, etc.

Thank you for all the help , I’ll give it a go.

Think I’ve done that bit, so thanks for the help. Just wondering what the next bit means regarding the neck. I’ve got up to slipping 24 stitches onto a holder, but bit confused about where to join second ball of wool to knit to last 6 stitches… Thank you

It’s as though you were continuing the row after placing the sts on hold. Rejoin the yarn at the other end of the holder:

Brill. I’ve purled the 22 stitches as described but it then says turn and continue to work on these 22 stitches which is fine, but, next row says I should be on RS to bind off 4 at beg of row… If I turn as described when I get to the next row to bind off, it won’t be on the RS surely. Sorry to be a pain… This pattern said it was easy!!

The center sts are placed on a holder on a RS row. With the new ball of yarn, you finish out the RS row then turn to the WS and purl 22sts. When you turn at the end of the 22sts (the neck edge) you’ll have a RS facing ready to bind off 4sts at the neck edge.
