I’m trying this simple pattern I’ve never done before on an even number of stitches (20) but I keep getting it wrong and end up decreasing each time on the first two rows.
Does anyone have a different explanation for the same pattern? Does anyone know what it called?
What stitch should I be finishing the first two rows on?
Thanks for your help
Cast on an even number of stitches. Add 2 selvage stitches if you want to make a nice-looking edge.
Row 1 (right side) : [k1, yo&slip], repeat brackets to end
Row 2 (wrong side) : [k2tog, p1], repeat brackets to end
Row 3 (right side) : knit all sts
Row 4 (wrong side) : purl all sts
Repeat rows 1-4 as necessary for completing your project.
Count the sts after each row. There are 30sts after row 1 and 20 after row 2. The yo and the slip one from row 1 are the sts that are knit together on row 2. Be careful of the last yo. It has no following stitch to anchor it, just a slip stitch so it’s easy to lose that stitch when you turn to work row 2.
Yes, those must have been my mistakes. I’ll try again.
Actually, my mistake was that I didn’t do the YO correctly.
I was just going to suggest double checking your yo, even after 50+ years of knitting, I still mess this up way more often than I should!
