Help with pattern when I get to the chart

I am hoping someone can help me decipher a specific section of a pattern I’m about to start for a shawl. It has a few double eyelet rows and then you start the chart. It wants me to work edge sts every row as established in row 8 of double eyelet rows while working the chart. The chart has 27 sts in each row and when I start at the chart I have 115 sts on my needles. Here’s the part where I am confused:

“Cont working edge sts every row as established in row 8 of double eyelet rows, AT SAME TIME, work in chart as foll:
Note Only RS rows shown in chart. K every WS row.
Row 1 work 44 sts, beg with row 1, work 27 sts of chart, k to end. Cont in pat as established, working 90 rows of chart and working every WS row as k - 25 sts when chart is complete. Work even, cont to work edge sts until 14 sts rem.”

The double eyelet row 8 it references is:

Row 8 K1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end.

Soooo . . . when it says “work edge as established in row 8 of double eyelet” does that mean at the beg of each row I k1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog and then knit until I hit 44 sts and then work the 27 sts of the chart? It then says k to end after chart sts, but do I knit and then work the last 7 sts as *k1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog? It seems I start each row with those first 7 sts in Row 8 of the double eyelet, k to the chart, follow chart, then knit to last 7 sts and again work first 7 sts of row 8.

Am I reading that right?? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

What have you been doing for edge sts? The eyelet row sts are in the main body of the row. The edge sts would usually be in garter st or something.

What pattern is it? That way we can look it up and be able to help you a little better.

The pattern is in Vogue Knitting on the go Shawls, I don’t have it online. Maybe there’s a mistake in it? There are 8 double eyelet rows and then it says to work edge as established in row 8 of double eyelet rows and that’s it. I must be missing something. Thanks for your reply though!

I’m looking for a picture of it, that can help figure things out. Which one is it?

It would seem that you do these as edge sts - K1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog (that’s 8 sts) - then work the chart over 27 sts and also work those 8 sts at the end of the row in the double eyelet st.

Hopefully, that link takes you to a pic of the diamond shawl. I just reread the pattern and confused myself further!
Thank you for all your help!!

Here’s exactly what the pattern says (minus the chart and point of the shawl).*

Note
Shawl is worked from top down.

Shawl
With larger needles, cast on 130 sts. Change to smaller needles. Work double eyelet rows as foll:
Rows 1 and 2 Knit.
Rows 3 K1, *k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Rows 4-6 K1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end - 127 sts.
Row 7 K1, k2tog, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3 - 126 sts
Row 8 K1, k2tog, yo, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end - 125 sts.
Rep row 8 ten times - 115 sts.

Beg Chart
Cont working edge sts every row as established in row 8 of double eyelet rows, AT THE SAME TIME, work in chart as foll:
Row 1 Work 44 sts, beg with row 1, work 27 sts of chart, k to end. Cont pat as established, working 90 rows of chart and working every WS row as k across all sts 25 sts when complete. Work even, cont to work until 14 sts remain.

It seems to indicate that there are 27 sts in the first row of the chart so you ‘knit 44’ by doing the 8 sts in the double eyelet pattern at the beginning and end of the row, and the 27 sts. That only adds up to 43, so perhaps there’s another k1 at the end of the row.

I think that’s it exactly with the knit at the end which would make edges look even on both sides. Then I’ll just knit the WS with no edging so I get the right decrease.

Thank you for giving me the courage to proceed!! Casting on tonight.
