Help with pattern please

I am doing a very simple pattern to use up some extra bulky yarn I have. Pattern is free Lion Brand Velvetspun Bunny Blanket Buddy pattern #50722.

Row 64 of this pattern says *P1, Sl1 repeat from * across row. Next line says repeat row 64 until head measures 3 1/2 inches.
1st stitch on row 65 is a slip stitch from previous row and the yarn tail is not available till the second stitch.

Is the pattern correct and if so how to I purl the first stitch?

Thanks for your help. I might be missing something simple?

Bunny Blanket Buddy Pattern (Knit) – Lion Brand Yarn
Bring the yarn to the front from that 2nd stitch to the beginning of the row so you can purl the first stitch of the row. These Shape Head directions are going to create a pocket so that the head can be stuffed.
I’ve made these bunnies before and they work out very nicely.

Thank you. I tried bringing the yarn around the first stitch and it wasnt working. So I took first stitch off needle then brought the yarn forward and put the stitch back on and then purled it. That worked. Thanks for explaining how the head was being built. I had no idea how the row was going to shape the head but after your response and once I started and I saw the pocket forming it made sense. Great help as usual. Eternally grateful for this forum.

I think the yarn is supposed to wrap that first stitch. I have not done this myself but have read threads about this same situation.

Well, happy you have it working. It’s really very cute when finished and a good use for extra bulky yarn.

Well I thought I had this figured out but I am stumbling again. When I start the ears I start with 28 stitches on the needles. After row 9 I have 20 stitches on the needles. How can I do the second ear the same as the first when I am 8 stitches short?

On row 1 you’ll cast on 17sts. That will be enough to work the second ear plus about 6sts from the 20sts that you have on the needle now. You’ll end with 12sts when both ears are complete.

Thanks SalmonMac. Once I got it in my head to ignore the head stitch count and just work the ear it all worked out. Thats what an experienced knitter does…understands what is going on. You can’t always follow the pattern verbatim… sometimes you have to understand what is going on! Still learning that! Thanks again!

But my problem now is I must have done something wrong because I do not have a hole in the top of the head for the stuffing. It is sealed shut! I am assuming that the,12 stitches should part and open a hole to put the stuffing in. Once I confirm that is the way it is suppose to be I will try to figure out where I went wrong.

The last row across these center or top of the head sts continues the (sl one, purl 1) pattern and should leave the pocket open. When you take the needle out of the sts and place every other stitch on waste yarn can you see the pocket?

Thats what I figured was suppose to happen. But its closed right up. The only thing I think could have happened is when I was doing the last P1 S1 on Row 9 of the second ear I must have purled the slips and slipped the purls. I frogged it back and it opened up. Just need to clean up the edges and hopefully good to go. I cant believe that I have had so many questions on this “easy” pattern! Again thanks for getting me back on track.

“Easy” is among the greatest misnomers ever. It’s a tricky little pattern but worth the effort. Good going!

Not perfect but…..used up some leftover yarn.

That’s sweet and using leftover yarn is a great bonus!

That bunny buddy looks terrific! Thanks for the photo.
