Please can someone help me finish this blanket before the baby is born! I am near the end but can’t figure out the last bit. If I finish on the last repeat of line 49 I have the requisite 7 stitches between the bumps on the diamond pattern, but the next bit seems to ask me to knit the seed stitch for 2 rows which leaves me on the right side afterwards. The following page begins on a wrong side. I am positive I am missing something! Thank you for looking at this for me.
There is a chart for this blanket pattern about halfway down this page that may help.
The row with 7sts between sides of the diamond is a RS. The next row would have 5sts between sides of the diamond. Meaning you’re back to a RS row as you posted and not the WS row given on the next page for the 3sts between sides.
You could work this from the chart rather than the written directions, continuing the diamond pattern and seed stitch as you have been doing on the blanket probably matching the lower border.
I would read that as after repeating Row 49 (with the 7 stitches between seed stitches), you work as given in the sidebar. It says stop the Argyle repeat and start the border as follows: , so then you’ll switch and do the 2 set-up rows for the border. So the first border row replaces Row 50, then you work another row, and you’ll be ready to start on a WS row.
I don’t know why they didn’t just say “work the last repeat through Row 49” instead of telling you to go to “the row that shows 7 stitches…”
It seems to me that a problem comes up with the diamond pattern. RS row 49 has 7sts between the diamond sides. The next 2 rows have 5sts between diamond sides and then 3sts between diamond sides. But the row at the top of the next page is a WS row and again has 3sts between the diamond sides. So somewhere a row has to be skipped to adjust for this.
I agree that the “row with 7sts” seems unnecessary and confusing.
Thank you so much, I will try the chart as you suggest.
OK, just keep the diamond pattern aligned work a RS where you need a RS and WS where you need a WS. If it’s still giving trouble, come back and let us know.
Good luck with it!
I am using the chart and knitting backwards from row 18 to row 1 to finish the border. I think this will work and I am so grateful to you guys for suggesting a solution and showing me I was not, in fact, going mad in thinking the pattern might be at fault!
That’s a good approach. Good idea!
