Help with pattern Mabyn by Sarah Hatton

Hello,

I need some help on a pattern. The pattern ask for a wrap and turn, for the first 17/18 stitches it has a set pattern for the edge that continues all the way through the wrap and turn.

Following the wrap and turns to the end the edge to the right seems like by the end of the wrap and turn that it would be disjointed to the edge on the left.

Can anyone help please?

The wrap and turn are worked over 2 rows at a time. So work toward the right edge, w&t, then work to the left edge, w&t. There will be a disjoint of one row but the wrap and turn will prevent a hole at the turn. The two edges will be symmetrical.
I’m not sure if that’s your question but if not just come back and we can work it out. I’m doing short rows myself at the moment for a cardigan collar.

Hi,

Thank you for replying. What I mean is according to the pattern I start my wrap and turn on the row 3 for the edge. Meaning the first Stiches I do will be p1, c3b, p1, c3b, k1, c3f, p1, c3f, p1.

When I finish my wrap and turn and go to the end the row I’ll then be on row 4: k1, p16, k1. Then when I start my next row it will be row 1: p1, k3, p1, k7, p1, k3, p1. Whilst the other edge will still be needing to have row 3. So the design of the edging will be off kilter.

Are you working past the turn each time for the short rows or are you working fewer sts and not reaching the turn with each short row?

Im working shorter rows. Here’s the pattern for the w&t:

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 19 sts, w&t, patt to last 19 sts, w&t. [8 sts dec’d]

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 23 sts, w&t, patt to last 23 sts, w&t. [8 sts dec’d]

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 27 sts, w&t, patt to last 27 sts, w&t. [8 sts dec’d]

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 31 sts, w&t, patt to last 31 sts, w&t. [8 sts dec’d]

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 35 sts, w&t, patt to last 35 sts, w&t. [8 sts dec’d]

Next 2 rows Working decs as set, patt to last 39 sts, w&t, patt to end. [8 sts dec’d]

If you’re working a 4 row repeat pattern, it looks like these 12 rows will put you back in register when you finish the short rows. There’s only one mention of a problem with the short rows on the Ravelry page and the knitter compensated by working an extra row. I’ll have to try this with a pattern on the needles to see just what’s going on.

Have you sent a message to the designer yet?

It looks like the pattern has left out a step in the last pair of short rows. The short rows are all knit in the stockinette portion of the yoke. On the last pair, work to 39 stitches from the end, w&t and work to 39 stitches from the end, w&t and work to the end of the row. This will include the last 17 stitches of row 3. You should be on track, with one final wrap to resolve on row 4.
