Help with pattern jargon

Hello I am totally new to all this and have managed so far but my next bit has me pulling my hair out.

I am doing the left front side to baby cardigan and It said to dec 1 st at end of next and foll 8 alt rows, (this I have done but now says) then on 3 foll 4th rows. This I have read and re-read and just means blah blah blah.

I would be so grateful if someone could explain in easy English.

OK, so if the 8 following alt rows are rows 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 and 16 then you continue to dec on rows 20, 24 and 28. These last 3 decreases are every 4 rows.

That makes total sense, my Nan would have told me but has passed and I am a very early knitter.
