I’m confused about the part of the instructions that is in red. Cable Pattern (over 9 sts)
Rows 1 and 3 (RS): K9.
Row 2 and all WS rows: P9.
Row 5: Slip next 3 sts on cn and
hold to front, k3, k3 from cn, k3.
Rows 7 and 9: K9.
Row 11: K3, slip 3 sts on cn and hold to back, k3, k3 from cn
Rep rows 1 - 12 for pattern.
Back
With size 7 (4.5 mm) needles cast on 93 (100, 107) sts. Work in k I, p1 for 20 rows.
Next row (RS): K9, p (4 5) rep to last 9 sts, k9. Cont in Cable Patt, beginning first cable twist in row 3 (5, 7). AT SAME TIME inc 1 st at each edge purlwise beginning from row 7th in every 10 rows 5 times. -103 (110, 117) sts. Work even until piece meas 11.5 (12, 12.5)”/ 29 (30.5, 32) cm from beg, ending with WS row.
if i start the cable twist on row 3 instead of row 5 as the cable pattern indicates, what should my subsequent rows look like? should i pretend that i’m on row 5 and continue on to row 6, or should i go on to row 4 and do the same cable twist when i get to row 5? thanks in advance for your help.
thank you SOOOO much. now it makes perfect sense. this is my first time following a pattern like this and i didnt get that i had to work the cable pattern into that k9, p3 line.
About the increased stitches - I’d purl them on the RS and knit them on the WS. You’ll end up with five on each edge, so they’ll be the “border” before the first cable and after the last cable of the piece, kind of like the P3 between the cables.
What are you making? It looks like the back of a sweater from the number of stitches and the pattern.
i’m making a karabella cabled cardigan. if you want to see the picture follow this link http://www.karabellayarns.com/flashsite.asp and click on patterns and it’s in the aurora 8 section, number 183.
