Help with pattern insructions

Hi All

Still quite new to knitting but generally managing to follow a pattern but this one has me totally stumped.

Row 1 - (rs), K1, yfwd, *k5, lift 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts on right needle over first st and off right needle, yfwd; rep from * to last st, k1

So I think I understand k1, yfwd knit 5 (I end up with 7 stiches) how on earth do you lift stiches 2, 3, 4 and 5 over 1 surely thats the wrong way! I tried lifting 2,3,4 and 5 over 6 and 7 and off the needle and that looked kinda right but then I got to row 2.

Row 2 - P1, *(p1, yon, k1 tbl) into next yfwd, p1; rep from * to end

I think i understand the P1, yon k1 tbl (but i don’t know why its in brackets) but i have no clue what it means by into the next yfwd. I tried doing P1, *(p1, yon, k1 tbl) yfwd, p1; rep from * to end

But i ended up with too few stitches!

Sorry this is a bit complicated as a post but i really want to make this for my best friends newborn it such a pretty little dress.

If anyone can help i’d be very grateful.

The lift sts 2, 3, 4, and 5 over the 1st stitch is referring to the k5 sts you did. The first st is the one closest to the end of the needle.

The brackets are there to show that (p1, yo, ktbl) are all be made in the YO from the previous row, so you’ll have 3 sts made from one.
