Help with pattern for Angela Phillips' hat on Wild West~

Hello darlings!
I’m a new knitter, and I’ve taken to it with a passion, but I’m learning off the internet. I don’t always know the lingo to be able to search for the help I’m looking for, so I came to you! I was hoping someone here could tell me how to knit the center portion of Angela’s purple hat in Wild West. (And bother, it won’t let me post the link because I’m new… I’ll try to add it later. If any of you have the ambition to and are kind enough, google image searching “angela phillips wild west” will do the trick!) Or at least, if you recognize the stitch, can you tell me what it’s called so I can research it?? Thank you soso much! I’m really excited about making this hat.
Cheers~!

Ah, there we go!

Welcome to KH Donna! Do you have a link to the pattern? We may be able to help you if we have that, or at least some pattern instructions.

SO PROMPT! I haven’t even gotten off the site yet  I’m afraid I don’t even know if a pattern exists…I was hoping someone could recognize what’s going on by looking at it…

It’s hard to tell by just looking, some sort of rib to begin with, idk, maybe a broken rib? And then the middle section is done in a diagonal stitch of sorts, followed by a stockinette stitch with decreases.

I would think you could browse the free patterns at ravelry.com and find some likenesses of the hat that could work for you. If you are not registered at that site, it is definitely a must-do.

You might also check out knittingfool.com to browse stitch patterns.

We could certainly assist you in working out a pattern for a hat, they are pretty easy.

Have you given thought to your preference in the type of needle you would like to use, circular, double-pointed, straight, etc.?

Welcome to Knitting Help!
Very pretty hat. The rib looks like a k1p1 twised rib (knit into the back of the knit stitches). The diagonal stitch is similar to this pattern but with an elongated stitch instead of the simple diagonal cable. Good luck with your search.

Y’all are fantastic, I will definitely be checking out those resources! I’ve done some research and understand the twisted rib, but I’m still clueless about the elongated stitch. Do you make an extra long stitch, and then attach the floating end farther up the pattern?
(I would like to use circular needles. I have 36" and am familiar with the magic loop method…I need to invest in some 16"s, I think that would make it simpler!)
Thanks so much for your advice~
