I’m trying to a knit a coffee cozy bernat pattern.
I’m stuck! Here’s the directions:
Stocking st 2 ins
(Inc 1 st in next st. K 7)4 times. 36 sts
Cont even for 4 ins. Cast off.
The cont even part…I have no idea what it means.
Thanks!

It just means to continue in the stitch established, which in this case is St st, without anymore increases or other changes. Do the St st for 4 more inches after the increase row.
The “cont even for 4 ins” means to continue knitting with out increasing or decreasing for 4 inches .After reaching the measurement shown then you would bind off and seam the ends if it was knitted flat or if knitted in the round you would be finished. It does make a difference as to which way you are knitting, flat or in the round. If knitting flat you knit one row and the next row is purled. If knitting in the round, you just knit all rows. To get garter stitch in round you knit one row and purl the next row. I hope this helps you understand it.
Thank you so much! I was assuming that was what it meant, but not for sure. Thanks again for your help.
Hi! i am new to forums so I do not know what I am doing but I have a knitting problem and have several hours trying to solve it so I desperately need help I am making a dishcloth and the directions call for K1, *SL1wyib. K1, SL1wyib. K3 Rep from * to last 4 sts. (SL1Wyib. K1) twice can some one please explain to me what this means. It is a mosaic strip dishcloth with sugar and cream yarn. I am to have this done by Friday. Thanks for any help anyone can give me or tell me where to go to get the help. Thanks.
You should always slip the sts as if to purl, but the yarn will be held in back (sl 1 wyib). So k1, leave yarn in back and slip the next st, k1, leave yarn in back, slip 1, then k3. Repeat this until you have 4 sts leaft then slip 1, k1, sl 1, k1.
