# Help with pattern decipher

This pattern is for a sweater. The part I do not understand if
the sleeve part. I will give you the pattern first and then ask
the questions;

Sleeves;
Cast on 22 (22, 24, 24)sts. Knit 5 rows.
Change to St st.
Increase 1 st eacj sode every 4th row 6
(10, 11, 11) times and every 6th
(0,0, 2nd) row twice - 38 (42, 46, 50)
sts. Work even until sleeve measures
10 (11, 12, 13)" from beg. Bind off

OK, first question, the text in red, what does
the 0, 0, 2nd mean?

Second question, the increases confuse me.
I increase by 1 at each end in rows 4,
8, 16, 20, 24 & 28 and increase by 1
at each end on rows 6 & 12? If so,
why not just say row 6 since 12 would
have been an increase for the ‘every
4th row’ thus I suspect I am not getting
it right.

As always, thanks for your time,
Darcy

The increases every 4th row get completed before the increases every 6th row. So you work your first set of increases on rows 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 (so you were pretty much right on that part, except that you didn’t mention row 12…) and then after those are finished, you increase every 6th row, twice. So in other words, on rows 30 and 36.

The part in brackets that you have in red are just for the alternate sizes. So for the two sizes that show ‘0’ it just means that you don’t do any further increases beyond the first set every 4th row. For the one that says ‘2nd’ it just means that for that size, instead of increasing every 6th row, like you are doing for your size, you increase every 2nd row, twice.

Thank you so much. I’m off to rip the sleeve I was working
on and start over, the right way this time.

Thanks again!
