Help with Patten

This pattern is called a shell stitch
I have a pattern that says K1(edge st) *[p2tog]twice,[yo,k1] 3 times, yo,[p2tog] twice: repeat from * across to last st, end k1(edge st)

The question that I have is when it says yo,[p2tog]twice, do I yo p2tog, yo p2tog, or

yo p2tog p2tog.

You see earlier in the pattern there’s a [p2tog] twice that stands alone? The one after the YO matches it. The YO is part of the [yo, k1] 3 times instruction - yo k yo k yo k yo.
