Help With My First Scarf

Hello everyone. I’m new here and a new knitter as well. I’m enjoying knitting my first scarf but have a problem - I’ve lost my pattern. Thought I bookmarked it but I didn’t. I’m attaching a photo of it in hopes someone here can help me figure out how to finish it. I know that the first stitch is a knit stitch for two rows followed by two rows that begin with a purl stitch but I’m darned if I know what follows. I really want to be able to finish this Christmas gift! Thanks for you help. I’m trying to upload a photo - not sure if it worked either.

Hello Elizabeth and Welcome to KH! That is a really lovely scarf - I’m going to take a closer look at it, but do you remember where you got the pattern? Was it from a book or a magazine, or did you find it online? Any information you give us could prove to be helpful.

It looks as though it may be a double moss stitch or a double seed stitch to me. Can you look at the last row that you knitted and name the sequence of the stitches, e.g., first stitch is a purl, second stitch a knit, etc.

This is a cowl I found on ravelry.com. What do you think?

Double Moss Cowl

I agree that it looks like k2, p2 repeat across, next row knit the knits and purl the purls; 3rd row would be p2, k2, repeat across, then a row of knit the knits and purl the puls; then back to k2, p2.

A close up of a small section of the stitches could help too.

Ok it’s all coming back to me now. I found the pattern online and would have used search terms like “easy” “beginners” “scarf” but I couldn’t find it again when I went back. I found the pattern a little boring so I started another project before finishing this one, then couldn’t remember when I picked it up again. I’m pretty sure it’s K2P2 for two rows, then P2K2 for two rows. You all gave my memory a little kick-start. Thanks so much.

That’s what the photo looks like. You can look at the stitches and see if that’s what you did. It looks really good so far; if you’d like to post a photo when it’s done, that would be great.

I honestly don’t know how to just look at the stitch and understand what it is. This is not something I’ve got the hang of yet. Yes, I’ll post it after I’m finished. I’m also knitting an afghan for my Mama for Christmas. She is going to be very surprised - I’m not known for my stitching and craft skills, lol.

Sweet! Your mom will love a gift from the  I’m sure she’ll cherish it.

I found this link:

How to recognize a knit and purl stitch.

You certainly will be known for your knitting skills after this Christmas! Here’sone of the videos online for recognizing knits and purls. It’s a good thing to learn and will help with all your projects. Love to see the afghan too if you’d like to post a photo.
