Help with knitting sock

Row 1 - K1, K2tog., J1; turn; slip 1, P2; turn

Row 3 - K2, K2tog., K1; turn; slip 1, P3; turn

Row 5 - K3, K2thg., K1; turn; slip 1, P4; turn

I have never done this proceedure, can someone please explain this to me, I am knitting a pair of socks on two needles, from Jack Frost
number 57 book.

I lack the idea what J1 is. Should that be K1?

The procedure that it wants you to do is called short rows. These are done without wraps.
