Help with knitting abbreviation

Hi I am a new member and so thankful for this group already! I’m stuck with a project I’m doing…is anyone able to help explain what the following means:

(K1,YO) twice

Thanks in advance!!

What’s your pattern and designer? There should be an explanation of the abbreviations, either on the first page or sometimes on the last page.

Parentheses usually mean that everything inside them is a sequence that will be repeated, and then there will be something that tells you how many times, or maybe “repeat to end of row”.

So in your case, (Knit one stitch, Yarn Over), then do everything in parentheses on more time.

Thank you! Designer is Knitatude. I did check the abbreviations and of course this one is not included. Do you think I am supposed to K1,YO into the same stitch twice? That’s where I am uncertain.

Hello
Usually this does not mean in the same stitch. More often the words “into a single stitch,” or similar, would be used if that was intended.

(K1,YO) twice
Do everything inside the parentheses the number of times given outside the parentheses.
K1, yo, k1, yo
This will use up 2 stitches in total and will result in 4 sts on the needle.

Hope this helps

Good Morning,
This was so helpful to me. Thanks a million.

A yarn over isn’t done into a stitch, it’s an increase done between stitches. Depending on how the next row is worked, it may leave a decorative hole. Knowing the name of the pattern would help us see which is intended.

Happy Friday! I am back with another question. I am confused about the instructions where it has YO, K1,YO, P2, YO, K1

After I YO, P2 the yarn is already “over”because I did purl stitches. Do I need to wrap it over again?

Thank you!

The YO is part of the pattern increases and creates the eyelets in the lace. You want to make sure that you create that extra stitch after the purl stitches.
Yarn over after the K1 and bring the yarn around to the front again between the needles to work the P2. Then bring the yarn over the right hand needle to the back to work the K1. It helps not to work this last yarn over too tightly.
Here’s the yarn over after a purl and before a knit:

After the P2 the yarn is in the front but it isn’t really a “yarn over” until you take it to the back over the right needle to work the next knit stitch.

Didn’t see salmonmac had already posted here.

Just to be clear, if you’ve worked a K1, YO and the next stitch is a P2 then you would need to bring the yarn around the right needle again to the front to work the P2.
If you’ve worked a purl stitch and the next stitch is a K1 the you would just need to drape the yarn over the right needle to create the YO.
