Help with knitting a penguins head!

Hi

I’ve been knitting straight forward items for a while but my 5 year old spotted this penguin pattern and asked me to knit him one. I’ve attempted the bit of the pattern photographed below but ended up with two holes in it (photo below) when I went back and knitted the unworked stitches. How do I avoid this? Also could someone please explain P2togtbl, I understand the abbreviation but not sure where my yarn should be in relation to my needles!

These are short rows. Working a wrap & turn or some other method for short rows may help a bit. You can try the traditional wrap & turn.

or you can see if some other method like Japanes, German or shadow wraps appeals.
