I am knitting a hat for my dmil and I’ve come to a point in the pattern (which is a free pattern that came with the yarn) which says:
Cast on 80(88, 96) sta, join in rnd.
Rnds 1-4, Knit, pm at end of first round.
Rnd 5:*P1, K1, p1, k1; rep from * around.
Rnd 6: *K1, P1, k1, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnds 5 & 6 for 2_".
Work next four rounds as follows:
Rnds 1 & 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: Increase 16 sts evenly around- 96 (104, 112) sts.
Rnd 4: Knit.
I am up to the point of where it says to " Rep Rnds 5 & 6 for 2_". "
I am not sure what this means~the hat is written for three sizes, but there is no indication elsewhere on the instructions (that I can see anyway) to clarify this. I am guessing it means to knit for a certain # of inches, but I have never seen anything like this before.
Given this is a hat the repeats are quite limited. Is there a pic of the FO? 2" sounds right for ribbing or similar assuming your gauge permits repeats (as stated) within a 2" span. Perhaps your intuition is the answer.
Or it could have been a character for ¼ or ½ which didn’t display correctly. I think you could knit the ribbbing for about 2" and everything would come out right.
You know I think y’all are right~maybe it just means to knit 2.5" or there-abouts.
The hat doesn’t have any ribbing, it’s just a stockinette border, then 4 rows of seed stitch, and then increase and continue in seed stripe (horizontally) pattern to decreases. I think I’ll just keep knitting the seed stripe pattern until I feel like its ready to decrease. My DMIL wanted a floppy style of hat, and this one fits the bill, so perfect fit isn’t critical ( I hope!) .
