Hello
I have just cast on to knit a vest and the instructions are as follows:
CO 86 sts. Begin 1x1 Rib: work even for 2" ending with a WS row decrease 1 st on last row - 85 sts remain.
I am confused as to which stitch should be decreased, is it at the beginning or the end? Any help will be appreciated.
TIA
Tania
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
It’s arbitrary where the decrease is made. You might make it close to one end of the row, maybe 4-6sts in from the end. If it were important where the dec was placed the designer would have specified (it’s to be hoped). The decrease is likely needed because of a change in the stitch pattern repeat.

I would say that it does not matter, or they would have specified.
I would add that I would decrease near the end so the decrease isn’t as visible as would would be in the center front, for example.

Yes it did occur to me that this could be what the designer intended. Thank you!
Nice!
Sizes given are finished measurements. You’ll need 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6) hanks of the recommended yarn to knit the different sizes. Sample shown in color “Java”.
Have fun making this very elegant vest.
