Help with increasing at the edge.

Hello !

I am currently knitting the sleeves section of my pattern. It is asking me to increase 1 stitch at both ends of 5th and every 6th row. When I am doing this I am struggling to keep my pattern consistent.

The rib asks me to K2 P1 to the last 2 stitches K2. My 5th row would be another rib row, I then purl a row and when I come to knit my next rib row, would I start this with P1 then follow the rib as suggested ?

Also do I put the increase in the very first stitch?

Yes, that will work. The on the next 2 increase rows the increases would be knits to complete the k2 part of the k2p1 pattern.
(Sometimes knitters keep a stitch at each end of the sleeve rows to make it easier to seam but you don’t have to do that.)
