Help with hat decreases on DPNs

I am down to the last few stitches on DPNs (doing knit to last 2 stitches then K2tog), but realize that my stitches aren’t evenly spaced on the three needles? I have a total of 12 stitches left, (3 each on 2 needles and 6 left on 1 needle)

I am supposed to knit until 6 stitches remain, then What will happen? Can I continue? Do I just keep going?

Thank you!!!

You’re fine… you can use your 4th needle to carefully transfer one stitch from the needle with 6 sts onto each of the other two, then you will have four stitches on each needle. Then follow the pattern directions till you have six left, then cut your yarn leaving about 6 inches or so. Now thread your tail onto a yarn needle, feed it through the 6 stitches as you ease the needles out, pull the yarn tightly, and weave in the tail on the inside. You’ve got this
