HELP WITH GRAFTING PLS

Hello everyone, I would love some help with this, free pattern so feel comfortable posting

I cannot see grafting instructions on pattern, I have never grafted as I usually pick up the stitches, problem is when I google it it shows grafting of 2 x live stitches this grafting is done on front edging and on collar:

https://www.bergeredefrance.com/veste-a-torsades-1.html

Collar: Graft collar to neck edge ( see Grafting instructions). Fold it in half to WS and hem in place.

Edgings: Graft Edging 1 to edge of left front up to top of collar, then graft Edging 2 to edge of right front (see Grafting a border instructions).

There are grafting instructions on the website about 2/3 of the way down the page (the Advice pdf):

Page 19 has drawings for grafting but not quite the grafting of live sts to an edge. Here’s video for grafting live sts to a cast on edge:

and also a tutorial for grafting live sts to row ends:

It may take some playing around and practice with swatches to become comfortable with this last technique.
Love the cardigan!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help, I appreciate it so much! I wonder if it will be difficult to half graft 2 different directions as well as the stitch count will be different…I’ll give it a go when I’m finished, I’m dreading it a bit to be honest!

Sometimes these things turn out better than you think. A lifeline on your live sts may help in case you decide to take sts out.

For the collar, I would be tempted to knit another row, bind off and then stitch the join together.

That’s a great idea! Thanks so much x

Verzanie I found how to work Kitchener Stitch for Rib? http://www.tricksyknitter.com/kitchener-stitch/ It sounded strange but I followed the directions and it made sense as I progressed and the result was great. Happy grafting.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help! My issue here is that one set of stitches is live the other isn’t and also one of the sides to join is vertical compared to the live horizontal stitches, I’ll try all of your lovely suggestions!

HERE’S AN UPDATE FROM THE DESIGNERS…NEVER SEEN THIS, basically a back stitch:
Grafting a Border

  1. Using a contrast colour yarn work 6 rows of St St.

  2. Slide all sts from the needle and using a damp cloth press the St St section using an iron.

  3. Pin the edge of your actual garment section (correct colour yarn) in place where it needs to

be sewn.

  1. Unravel all but the final row of contrast colour yarn.

  2. Using a wool needle and yarn the same colour as your garment backstitch through the row

of open stitches of your correct colour yarn pulling the last row of contrast out as you go.

I’ve seen something similar to this when grafting the toe of socks, the so called sock chimneys. But I don’t really see that this helps you with live sts grafted to row ends or to the collar. The live sts on the needle always seem to me to be easier to work with than trying to pull out the last row of contrast yarn to reveal live sts. The difficult parts are the row ends or the bind offs at the collar not the live sts.
Good of the designer to reply so nicely to you though.

I’ll give it a try just to see.

ended up picking up stitches instead and it looks neat! I was too worried about messing it up…peters jumnper front|900x1200

Beautiful work, very well done on the bands. You’ve really worked the entire cardigan so neatly that the button and buttonhole bands are the icing on the cake. Love the buttons too!

Thanks for your kind words! x

Wow, great knit.
I have no idea about grafting, I read the instructions you were given and my head exploded, too hard for me… I see you decided to “off road” with the button band. It looks brilliant. Your cabling is so neat too.
