Help with gauge

I am fine getting gauge stitchwise, but when I crochet my gauge swatches, I can never seem to get my gauge row-wise. This hasn’t been too big of a problem (yet!) for the items I’ve crocheted, as I’ve been able to add a few more rows here and there to make up for my shorter gauge, but I’m worried if I come across a pattern that I may not be able to do this with, not to mention the fact that I’m using even more yarn I didn’t count on by doing this.

How can I achieve gauge for my rows when crocheting?

Like with knitting, it’s just not that easy to do. You can try going up another hook size and see if you get it. The difference in gauge stitch-wise between two hook sizes is fairly small, but it can make a difference in the gauge row-wise.
