I have a pattern “Hilda” from Hip knit Hats book. It says to knit back and forth and leave a seam up the back but I can’t figure out why. Do you think I can just knit it in the round? It also has attaching ear flaps. This is a top down pattern. Do I need to use smaller needles if I knit garter in the round? I just hate the idea of putting a seam up the back.
How do you do garter stitch? In the round, and on straights (Knit every time?)
On straights, you’d knit every row, but on circs, you’d have to knit a round, purl a round, etc. (You may want to use a marker to keep track of where the round starts so you know when you have to switch.)
For garter stitch in the round it’s pretty easy to tell when you’ve reached the end of the round because the next stitch is the same you’ve been knitting. It’s the stockinette or ribbing you need to keep track of closely.
