Help with fair isle chart - decreases?

This is probably a massively stupid question but before I just go for it I thought I’d ask… I am doing a fair isle hat and have come to the crown and am ready to start the decreases. The instructions call for right slanting decreases and left slanting decreases. Fine.

The issue I come to is that the pattern contains, along with the colors, these symbols:

“” and “/” . The “” are at the left side of the chart and the “/” are on the right. Based on where they are on the chart and the fact that the chart is symmetric, coming to a point with decreases on both sides, I would imagine the one on the left side of the chart is a right slanting decrease, and vice versa. But the symbols look like the opposite of that.

Any smart chart people want to take a stab?

Usually the chart will have a key telling you what the symbols mean–is that not the case?

If not, my guess is that the “” is a left-slanting decrease and the “/” is a right-slanting decrease.

If you think of the chart as a small chunk of the whole, the decreases make sense; they’re angling towards each other: “/” and then “”.

yup, I got it. It is a free pattern off patterncentral, no key and the needle size was way way off for the weight of yarn used. I have it figured out now, thanks!
