Help With Eyelet Shruglet

Has anyone knit the Eyelet Shruglet from the new “101 Designer One-Skein Wonders” book? I truly do not understand this pattern.

The instructions after knitting 12 rows of K1P1 ribbing on 70 stitiches to do 2 set up rows:

Set Up Row - 1: K3, (K10,pm,K1) twice, K20, (pm,K1,K10) twice, K3
Set Up Row - 2: K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3

Then it says to begin eyelet pattern:

Row 1: K3, *work Simple Eyelet Lace to marker, yo, sm, K1, yo; repeat from * to last 13 stiches, work Simple Eyelet Lace to last 3 stitches, K3.
Row 2: K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3.

Then is says to continue in this manner, increasing before the markers and after the K1, and working Simple Eyelet Lace between increases, until piece measures about 6".

The Simple Eyelet Pattern:
Row 1: K1, *K2tog, yo, K2; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2.
Row 2: Purl

My question is, what part of the Eyelet pattern do I knit on row one?
Do I K3 then K1 then do the pattern? If I do, then I end up before the first marker in the middle of the Eyelet Pattern. It just does not make sense.

Help please…

How are you doing your YOs - just putting your yarn over the needle, or putting the yarn over and knitting 1? A YO is just `yarn over the needle’ doesn’t include a k1 after it. You should be doing only this - K2tog, yo, K2 - which uses up 4 sts, not 5.

:?? I don’t think there’s always an even number of repeats of the lace pattern – especially since you’re increasing one stitch each time. So for row 1, you’re doing the lace repeat over 10 stitches and over 20 stitches; in all cases, the lace repeat section starts with k1 and ends with k2, so I guess on row 1 you have:

10-stitch version: k1, k2tog yo k2, k2tog yo k1, k2

(which is a not-quite-complete second repeat)

but I’m not sure what you’d do for the 20-stitch version, since k1 + 4 repeats of the middle section brings you to 17 stitches used, and the next bit in the pattern is a k2tog but you then need to do k2.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am only doing a yo and not a yo with a K1. Even with this, it still leaves me in the middle of the lace pattern when I get to the markers. How frustrating!

Oh, I figured it out… Start the row, k3, then the st pattern - k1, * k2tog, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, sm, k1, yo, then repeat to the last 13 sts. You do leave off the last k2 at the end of the st pattern, but on later rows you’ll proabably have enough sts to complete it. So yes, on every row, just work the st pattern until you get to the marker, then start over after it.
