Help with Eye Holes?

I’m new to this forum but I’ve seen that it’s going to be very helpful! I tried posting this earlier but haven’t seen it so I’m wondering if I messed up on it.

I haven’t been knitting very long and most of what I’ve done so far has been pretty simple. Now I’m tackling something that requires a bit more than k & P and now I’m stuck! I am making this hat/mask as a Christmas gift.

I have just finished up through Face/Head portion of the pattern and have done the first row of the Eye holes portion and this is where I am officially lost.

“BO 2 sts, k11 (12 sts on right needle after bound-off sts) and place these sts on st holder; BO 2 sts, k to end. 60 sts.” I’ve done this. My first question is, how many sts should be on the st holder? The 11 that I stitched after binding off the first 2? Or the 12 that were on the right needle?

The next line in the pattern is:
“Row 1 WS: P2tog, p to last 2 sts, ssp.” WS is Wrong Side, correct? So does this mean I have to turn it inside out? Then:
“Row 2 RS: Sskm k to last 2 sts, k2tog. Again, RS is Right Side, correct? So turn it right side out? Also, I can’t seem to figure out what sskm means. ???

I think from here on out I’m going to need a lot of help. :eyes:

  1. When you BO sts, you still have a loop on the right needle, so if you k 11, there will be 12 on the needle.

No, you start knitting flat, so turn your work to just knit flat.

Then: “Row 2 RS: Sskm k to last 2 sts, k2tog. Again, RS is Right Side, correct? So turn it right side out? Also, I can’t seem to figure out what sskm means. ???

It’s a typo for `ssk,’ the writer hit the m instead of the comma. Again you’ll begin working flat so turn. Not really inside out or outside in, just turn and go back along the same sts.

I have just finished making this:)

on the stitch holder goes the 12 stitch on your right needle, they are put on hold to be worked later.

It then mentions RS and WS as you going to be knitting flat for this section so it is designating which side is which. The turn is because you will be turning at the end of those stitch just like when you knit flat and back and forth.

Little bit of advice - when you get to the section of stockinette between the eye holes and the decreases, you may want to make it a little longer than 3 inches (or even try it on as you go) as i found that it was a bit short/overstretched over my forhead.
