Help with Decrease in a Sleeve Pattern!

Hi everyone-- I’m working on a cardigan sleeve that has a chevron pattern. On either end of the pattern row is 5 stitches.
It says to “dec 1 at each end of the needle.” My question is, to stay in the correct pattern, does the single stitch that will be decreased count still as 1 stitch of the 5, or do I count the full decreased stitch (k2tog) as 1 of the 5? I hope this makes sense!

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
If you want to place the decrease at the ends of the row, k2tog, k3 at the beginning of the row.
It looks nice to have a seam stitch at the ends however, so place the decrease one stitch in from the ends, k1, k2tog, k2, work to the last 5sts, k2, k2tog, k1.
