Help with deciphering knitting pattern for beginner Mum

Hello fellow knitters!

I am new to knitting and have started knitting a jumper for my beautiful 2 year old daughter.

I am using all one colour (multi-coloured wool) for this jumper and have completed the first two steps in size 4. I have knitted 68 stitches for 21cm.

What do steps 3 - 5 mean please. The next step says “ With CC knit to end. Cable cast on (44)” followed by “ Turn, knit to end. Cable cast on (44)” then “knit even for 10cm”

Do I need to cable cast on even though I’m using all one wool blend? Do I knit straight on to the 68 stitches I have knitted already or do I start a fresh with 44 knit stitches? And what does it mean by “turn, knit to end”?

Thank you all so much

Step 3 " With CC knit to end. means with contrast color knit to end. Then it instructs you to cable cast on 44 stitches. This is for a sleeve. Then turn your work and knit to the end and repeat he cast on for the second sleeve. Then the next step is to knit until work measures 10cm after the cast on sleeves., t

Turning your work means the turning the needle so that you go from right side to wrong side. You do not need to cast on stitches on a new needle. You are simply casting on the sleeves on the same needle your cardigan is on. Turn and knit until you reach the end of your stitches.

I hope this helps you.

Hello
That’s a cute sweater!

If you don’t know how to do a cable cast on, I see there is a link to a video in your pattern. It’s a good cast on method for adding additional stitches mid pattern, it also makes a very attractive cast on for hems too although I see in your pattern it asked for a long tail cast on at the beginning of the project.

If you have more questions as you work through this pattern, don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you so much! Could please help me understand what this means

“ Rejoin CC for other side at opening and cable cast on”

Also what this means please

“ BO until the following number of stitches remain on left needle and knit to end”

I’m close finishing it

You’re to rejoin the contrast color (or the main color if you’re only using one color) and use the cable cast on to add the given number of sts for your size. Here’s a link for the cable cast on in case you need it.

A knit cast on will work too but the cable cast on gives a nicer edge.

Sometimes the instructions to bind off tell you the number of sts to bind off but that’s not the case here. This pattern wants you to bind off sts until a given number of sts remain on the left hand needle. You could count sts from the left edge and place a marker to remind yourself of when to stop the bind off.

You’re making good progress with this sweet sweater!

Thank you for that. Very kind.

Am I to cable cast on the stitches which are on hold? Or am I to keep those stitches on hold and use other knitting needles to cable cast on, on top of what I’ve just bound off? Hope that makes sense

Keep the sts on hold for one sleeve and shoulder. Cable cast on 6sts at the other sleeve and shoulder (on top of some of the bound off sts).
