Help With Debbie Bliss Pattern

HI All Knitters!

I’m working the Circular Cardigan out of Debbie Bliss’ “Out of Town” pattern book (pg. 43). I’m knitting the M size, which is the first number inside the parenthesis. It is knitted in the round.

I’ve begun the sleeves and have reached a portion of the pattern I don’t quite understand. I have highlighted the section in the attachment I’ve uploaded.

What I don’t get is the “dec in this way on 10 foll alt rounds, then on 14 foll 7th rounds ending up with 56 stitches” (when I started with 104)."

Does this mean knit ONLY 10 rounds and decrease on every other round? Then knit ONLY 14 rounds and decrease on the 7th and 14th rounds of the 14? That doesn’t get me down to 56 stitches plus it makes a really short sleeve. OR I thought it might mean to decrease on every 10th round, but that would make for a super long sleeve. OR does it mean knit and decrease every other round until I get to 52 stitches then knit 14 rounds and decrease on the 7th and 14th of the 14 rounds? I’m really confused

Oops I put this in the wrong thread! Sorry about that …

“dec in this way on 10 foll alt rounds, then on 14 foll 7th rounds ending up with 56 stitches” (when I started with 104)."

It means to decrease 1 stitch each end of the sleeve every other round 10 times and then do the decreases every 7th round 14 times.

104 to start with, 2 decreases 10 times equals minus 20, so now you are at 84. Then decrease 2 each end 14 more times for minus 28 more. Now you are down to 54. So you decrease quickly and then more slowly for a just right sleeve length.

oh! I see! Wow … thanks so much!

You’re welcome!
