I have a pair of circular needles and i am making a hat (im new to this) but I realised if I knit a long peice it will be just a tube so how do I make the end like a hat without transferring to any other type of needle - is it possible? I only have circular needles by the way so I actually CANT transfer.
Thanks in advance!!:knitting:
As you knit the “tube”, you start to do decreases, spaced out around the tube, which will cause it to narrow and become a closed top/dome of a hat.
Are you not using a pattern?
Is this your first hat?
There are plenty of free hat patterns you could look at/use to see how this works.
ETA - You will HAVE to transfer needles somehow (DPNs, two circs, magic loop)
If you’re using a 16" circular you will need to transfer to DPN or use a second circ. if you have another circ with the same sized needles you can use them.
If you are using a long. ICRC like 32" or longer and you’re doing magic loop you can decrease wight that needle.
tthanks but the problem is I dont have DPNS. Also my only stRaight needles are really short and can only fit 30 stitches.
You’ll either need other needles or use your one circ for Magic Loop type knitting. How long is your circular needle? I don’t see how straight, not dpn, needles would be useful. Sorry.
If your circular is long enough for Magic Loop, you won’t have to transfer sts. if you have another circular needle you can use 2 circs to knit the decreasing crown of the hat.
Yeah that. Guess I wasn’t very clear! Thanks, Salmonmac!
