Help with cable stitch please

Hi,
I’m knitting a simple cable hat and was wondering if when it says :
Cable 4 front, purl 2, knit 3, purl 2 to end of round…does that mean to take 4 stitches unto the cable needle, then purl 2, knit 3, purl 2 THEN knit the 4 stitches that I’m holding on the cable needle? and then do it again to the end of round?
I’m just confused about the cable part. Do I put all 4 stitches unto the cable needle and hold to the front, then knit the other stitches then the cable part?
THANK YOU for any help on this! I should know this by now but I think I’m tired. Up all last night with grand baby.

A cable 4 front uses 4 stitches total. Slip 2 to a cable needle and hold in front, knit 2 from your regular needle and then knit 2 from the cable needle. THEN do the rest of the stitches as listed.

ahhhhh…Thank you SO much.
