I have restarted this baby blanket twice. Just wondering if anyone has advice on evening out the side and bottom borders. I think blocking will help. It looks like a hot water bottle! Ha! Thanks.
Help with Borders
Really lovely baby blanket. Yes, blocking is going to open out the rib portion and even out the blanket. You might also add in a short row in the borders every so often. Knit across the RS border, turn before the body of the blanket and knit back along the border to the start of row. Do the same on the other edge at the beginning of a WS row.
You’ll only need to do this a few times along the length but the extra rows will help with shaping into a rectangle.
Thank you. I’ll give that a try.
You can do what’s called “blocking on the needles” to get a preview of how your border will turn out.
I prefer to do it using a piece of waste yarn, rather than getting water near my needles, but if you have your work on a long enough cord you can use that. If you use interchangeables, you can take the needles off and put stoppers on.
This is what I do:
Get a blunt sewing needle and a generous length of smooth cotton yarn, and thread your stitches onto the yarn.
Wash and block.
Thank you!
