Started knitting a baby beanie (Hayfield pattern 2106) with a lace brim. Realised ive knitted stocking stitch including crown on WRONG side so when i turn brim up its showing the back side of the lace.
Is there anyway i can salvage this apart from undoing it?
You can save this! There are a couple of ways to do this.
You could turn the hat inside out so that the reverse stockinette is facing out (the bumpy or purl side of stockinette) then fold up the brim so the RS of the lace brim is showing .
Alternatively, take out the hat portion of the bonnet saving the lace brim. Turn the lace brim to the WS and proceed with stockinette stitch to reknit the body of the hat. When you turn up the brim the RS of the lace will be showing.
Thanks Salmonmac for the tips.
I’ve been thinking about this and unless you have a strong dislike of having the reverse stockinette side be the RS, you’ve just made this your own creation. That’s an accomplishment in and of itself. Don’t tell anyone it’s a mistake and they’ll never consider the possibility.
This was a dilemma to me. My brain wouldn’t let me consider having reverse stockinette as RS as it looked “odd”.Im not good at undoing the work back to the lace part (working with 3 ply wool doesn’t help). This is Salmonmac idea i would have taken.
Kept fiddling around with it …have decided to turn the brim on stocking stitch side which means the lace pattern is on the WS.
Not telling anyone the mistake and hope they dont look too closely.
Thx GrumpyGramma.
Looks lovely as is!
That looks lovely. I understand about the reverse side looking odd. To me reverse stockinette looks like wrong side out. Your knitting is beautiful.
I love reverse stockinette and i notice a lot of bought sweaters and hats are rev st st too but your solution is very nice and i doubt the crown looked so lovely on the reverse side. Very nice result.
Thank you ladies.
