Help with Baby Blanket Pattern

I have a few questions  about this pattern.

 1. I understand the Moss Stitch… however, after you CO 125 sts… it says to work moss stitch 6 rows. In the instructions for Moss st, there are only 4 rows listed. SO… to do 6 rows… would I do the 4 rows listed and the do rows 1 and 2 again?

 2. The instructions then say to begin pattern stitch, working the first and last 7 sts in moss st. Considering that all 4 rows of the moss st pattern are all different, do I automatically do the first and last 7 sts as row 1 reads or what?

 3. What does it mean to knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts?

 4. It says to BO in pattern… what does that mean? With this particular pattern, what would I do?

Thanks in advance.

The Moss st has a 4 row repeat, so when you finish R 4, start again on R 1. For moss st, after the first row, you will knit the purl sts and purl the k sts on the row you’re working. So whether you start or end the row with the moss st, look at the row below your needle. If it looks like a knit you purl it, if it looks like a purl, knit it.

Knit the knits and purl the purls is the opposite of what I just said, but it’s in another part of the pattern. So knit a stitch that looks like a knit, purl one that looks like a purl.

To BO is just passing the sts off the needle instead of leaving them on, so you would just knit the last row in the st pattern, only pass the 1st st over the 2nd to take it off the needles.

Yes. Moss has a 4-row repeat and you’re doing 6.

You can. Work the right-hand border just as the moss st patt reads and do the same on the left. But you’ll need to familiarize yourself with how to read the sts as to what to do on each subsequent row.

 1. What does it mean to knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts?

Work them as they appear. If it’s a K st (‘V’) K it, if P (bump) P it.

That pattern says

Work Moss St 6 rows.
BO in pattern. Weave in ends on WS.

Your BO row will be worked in keeping with whatever the 7th row of moss st would be. Just treat it as a working row but BO as usual.

I think I have figured something out… but I just want to clear it up before I start.

Here are the first 5 rows of the pattern stitch:

Row 1 (RS): p1, *p4, (k1 p1) 2 times, k5, (p1, k1) 2 times, p5; rep from *
Row 2 and other even numbered rows: k all k sts and p all p sts
Row 3: k1, *p5, (k1, p1) 2 times, k3, (p1, k1) 2 times, p5, k1; rep from *
Row 5: p1, *k1, p5, (k1, p1) 5 times, p4, k1, p1; rep from *

Now here is my question (which my be silly:eyes: )…

I was doing a small swatch of the pattern and I think I realized something. I was trying to figure out what “k all k sts and p all p sts” meant. I am still a little confused. On Row 4, I did the opposite of row 3. Is that correct? And will it be that way throughout the whole pattern? Does this mean that on every even row, I will be doing the opposite of the row before?

Thanks in advance.

On Row 4, I did the opposite of row 3. Is that correct?

Are you referring to the moss st or pattern st? If the pattern st, yes, on the WS you’re doing the opp of what you did on the RS BUT learn to read the stitches rather than trying to keep track of what you did in the last row. In this instance, being all the WS rows are worked the same (doing the ‘opposite’ of the RS row) applies but that may not always be the case in the future.

As already posted,

Work them as they appear. If it’s a K st (‘V’) K it, if P (bump) P it.
