Just wondering if anybody could help me with this? I just finished knitting a cute scarf with misti alpaca yarn. I got the pattern free off misti alpaca’s website. Link here:
Problem? The finished end of the scarf doesn’t look the same as the other end! The ruffle is much bigger. Is it supposed to be like this? For the end ruffle I knitted front to back for the last two rows. I followed the instructions for knitting front and back from knittinghelp.com.
Here are a couple photos, too. If anybody can help me with this I’d really appreciate it! I want to finish this scarf! I already unravelled it twice.
The larger end looks like it is the right look for the pattern. The one that came out more ruffle-y, is that the one that you did first or last?
When you started the scarf, after you did your two decrease rows, did you count to make sure you only had 15 stitches left on the needle? And after you did your two ruffle rows on the end, did you count to make sure you had 60 before you bound off?
Could it possibly be that you cast on tightly - not necessarily really tight but just enough that your bound off end shows the difference, (i.e. you bound off loosely)?
that one that’s more ruffly - I did that one last. I am 99.9% sure that I had the right number of stitches when I was doing decreases and increases for both ruffled ends. hmm. It seems like such a difference between the two!
I did make an effort to bind off kind of loosely, because I thought the cast on ruffle seemed like it was loose. But maybe it wasn’t. The larger ruffle end looks better, imo. But…ugh…then I’d have to redo the entire scarf! What should I do? They def don’t look the same now - the ends I mean.
well i suppose you can try to undo the beginning but i am not sure how you do that, or if you will have enough to do the ruffle if you have already snipped the end. of course the other option would be to just try to make the bind off end match the cast on. not sure what you did there though in order to duplicate it. if you cast on the 90 stitches then it should have ruffled as you decreased…
hmm, well. maybe I didn’t do it right afterall. It was my first time trying the pattern. The cast-on and 1st ruffle instructions seemed pretty easy to me though. It’s just cast on 60 and then knit two together for two rows, right? and then start the ribbing pattern?
Maybe I did the 2nd ruffle wrong? I did knit front and back for two rows. hmm. argh. well, it’s a gift…it didn’t take me THAT long. maybe should just rip it all out
You’re right, it seems really easy, I wonder why it isn’t coming out? I know there is a way to take out the cast on end. But it might be easier to re-do the other end?
when it says knit into front and back of each stitch in the row, etc…
It’s my first time doing this stitch…I just followed the instructions from this knittinghelp.com site of how to knit front and back. Is that what the pattern is calling for? Maybe I did that wrong?
or, maybe my tension is just way off from the cast on ruffle compared to the bind off. hmm, i’ll try redoing the end again and see what happens
