I knit a garter stitch scarf then added a border in fun fur. I pulled out new stitches from the Garter Stitch scarf edge and then knit the fun fur onto those “pulled” new stitches. (not sure how to say this in correct 'knit-ese". I only put the fun fur on one side and one end so far. And I used a larger needle to bind off the final stitches (second row of fun fur). That side with the finished two rows of fun fur have shortened the whole scarf by curving inward. Instead of the scarf reaching below my pants pockets while standing, it now only reaches my belt/waist line. I am afraid to add the fun fur to the second side and end for fear of having the whole thing curve in on itself! HELP PLEASE. Lots of work here and now what? Thanks for any help available to salvage this scarf.
Help with added fun fur causing curves on flatgarter stitch
It sounds to me like you probably picked up too few stitches along the edges of the scarf. If you can rip the fun fur out, try picking up more stitches first and it should help. If you’re not totally sure how to pick up stitches, here is a video:

It’s about 3/4 of the way down the page under the heading ‘assorted topics’.
Good luck!
thanks knitqueen! This fun fur isn’t so much fun right now as it’s getting all tangled while I try to rip it out ever so gently. I am winding up having to cut some of it as I go. OY> Waste!
When I go back and pickup stitches again is there a way or need to somehow do MORE at the corners or should I just stop at the end of the long edge and then do the end of the of the scarf separately?
And should I pick up in the little holes as well as the big holes along to way to have more picked up stitches to avoid the curving effect? I am working on a piece of garter stitched scarf.
I would say that whatever you need to do to get more stitches picked up along the edges, do it. If it means picking up the big holes and the little holes, yes. Sometimes it is a matter of trying it a few times to get the right amount.
Generally speaking, if you pick up too few stitches it will get all bunchy, and it you pick up too many stitches, the edge will get all wavy and won’t lie flat that way either.
Unfortunately the fun fur is VERY difficult to rip out, I have had experience with that myself, but I hope that it works out for you. Is this your first project?
No this is not my first project. I did a scarf on a smaller scale for my grandbaby with the same basic style with a crocheted middle piece and then fun fur on the sides/around and it came out well/flat. But this knitted one is more problematic. It’s the first knitted item adding fun fur to its edges.
I was feeling more hopeful until you added that too many picked up stitches can cause bunching as well. Yikes. Well I will continue to try. Just frustrated with the time it took to make it and the time its taking (MORE) to rip out. And I think I will be cutting more out as one stran the top one keeps getting knotted up somehow! ARGH! Thanks ever so much for your help!
Also, if you think you’ve picked up enough stitches but it starts to curve again, just increase on the next row.
