Help with a vintage jumper pattern

Hi

I’ve hit a snag with this pattern and I’ve tried an retried several times and I just can’t make it fit with the number of stitches.

I’ve knitted the ribbing and the following stockinette plus the last purl side row before starting the lace pattern. I now have 154 stitches.

And here my snag starts - I have 154 stitches but I can only count 145 stitches in the 1st row(the second column) of the lace pattern.

Where am I reading it wrong?

Hope you can help before I get too annoyed…

(will post pic and the problematic pattern part next)

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
Thank you for all the pattern information. It’s a very attractive top.
I get 154 sts required for row 1. I’m assuming K.B. is something like knit into the back loop or knit into the stich below and not an inc or dec.
It works out to 16sts in the repeat section (bolded) between the asterisks. So it looks like:
17 16 20 16 16 16 20 16 17.
You can certainly see the advantage of charts for a pattern like this. It is confusing just keeping your place.
Is that the way you count out the sections?

Thank you.
Yes it is pretty so I’m not quite ready the give it up.

KB is as you said knit into back loop. Also the Brits have several ways of saying yarn over and will use them all in one pattern.

I also got the rep part to 16 but I got 151620161116201615.
Same number of sections just different count.
How do you get your count?

A chart would be helpful here

Ok, for the beginning section:
k10
(p1, kb2)x2=6
p1
That’s a total of 17sts.
For the middle section:
(p1, kb2)x5=15
p1,
so that’s 16sts.

How do you get the first - (p1, KB2) x2 to become 6 stitches
And the next (p1, KB2) x5 to be 15?
To me the first would be 4 stitches and the next the same also 15.

Ok, for the beginning section:
k10
(p1, kb2)x2=6
p1
That’s a total of 17sts.
For the middle section:
(p1, kb2)x5=15
p1,
so that’s 16sts.

Plus it still leaves me with too many stitches left on my needle unless the KB2 does not mean knit 2 times in one stitch but knit in back of two stitches?

Thanks for all your time and help

Yeah.

Tested and it works.

Thank you for your help and time

Glad it’s working. I was thinking about the difference in numbers. Remember that you repeat the entire sequence in the parentheses, for example, p1,kb2, p1, kb2.
