Help with a pattern

I am stuck on pattern. I am doing sleeves in stocking stitch. I am at the raglan. It says to dec 1 st at each end of every other row 8 times (i understand this)then it goes on to say and alt every 2nd and forth row twelve times

This confuses me. Do i just cont dec each end every 2nd row untill i reach the desired number of stitches which it says is 12

These decreases are often confusing. After the decreases every other row (rows 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 and 15) decrease on rows 17, 21,23,27,29,33,35,39,41,45,47 and 51.
