Help with a pattern.

Hi I’m new on here, I have a question about a pattern I’m working on at mom. The pattern is a King Cole 5373, ive worked the pattern then it says, keeping part correct, cast off 5sts at beg of next 16 rows, how do you work out the stitches on each row as the pattern has gone wrong when I’ve done my cast off sts…

You won’t be able to follow the pattern rows exactly as written. The best way to approach this is to look at your knitting and decide how to start the row so that the pattern is maintained.
Sometimes looking at the 4th or 5th stitch makes it easier to figure this out. Then you can count sts back to the first stitch of the row and you’ll know how to start.

I’m knitting a sweater at the moment with a 14 stitch repeat pattern and I’ve put stitch markers every 14 stitches so that when I get to decreasing for the armholes and the neck I can keep the pattern correct

Thank you for your advice.

Putting in stitch markers sounds like a good idea. If I get an instruction like this, where I am decreasing the number of stitches while keeping the pattern correct, I go to the end of the stitches on the first pattern repeat and work out from there back to the first stitch left on the needle what I need to do with each stitch. For example, if your pattern repeat uses 10 stitches and you take off, by whatever means, 3 stitches, you just need to work the last 7 stitches of the repeat.

Can you post a pic of the previous rows, so we can write out the decrease rows for you?
