Help with a neckline

Hello lovely knitters,

I’m really hoping you can help me. I only started knitting at the end of last year but I’ve knitted a few scarves, sweaters and toys. I love knitting but am so frustrated by the neckline of this pattern!

I love this free pattern from Purl Soho and I’m nearly finished. But I’m really struggling to get a straight neckline. I used the sloped bind off as suggested and then picked up 2 stitches around the neckline and bound them off. But I can’t get rid of the steps at either side of the front.

On the photo you can see one side with the yellow marker and easily see the step on the opposite side (both look the same).

I’m hoping to give this to my sister for Christmas. If anyone has any ideas for improving the neckline I’d be very, very grateful.

The sweater looks so wonderful. Even with the jog in the neckline, it’s still very pretty.

The decreases after the center bind off and the first few bind offs of 4 and then 3 sts are every row. And then every other row. That should give you a nice slope. Did you work the last several decreases every other row?

Hi Salmonmac,

Thank you so much for replying. I’m pretty sure I followed the directions and still ended up with the jog. However, I’ll rip back a few more rows to make sure and try again. Fingers crossed it works this time, otherwise my sister’s getting it as is and we’ll call the jog part of the design

Thanks again

Hi Salmonmac,
You kindly helped me last year but I did my usual procrastination thing and put it away in my workbag until a week ago.
I just wanted to say thank you again as I’ve finally finished the sweater and am really pleased with it!
