Help with a hat pattern!

I have a hat pattern and the gauge for it is 4 sticthes to 1 in. on Sz 9 needles I want to use this yarn i have but the gauge for the yarn is 8 stitches to 1 in on sz 15 needles? How can I use this yarn with this pattern? I hope i made since. :??

 That’s a weird one. I’ve been trying to figure it out for you, but it’s becoming a challenge. Do you know the weight of the yarn you have? Like if it’s worsted or bulky?

It seems like they are requesting a worsted or DK weight yarn. You’d need a yarn as thin as that if you’d like to use it for your hat. Otherwise it could come out way too big or way too small, but by the sounds of it, it may be a bulkier yarn that you have and it may end up WAY too big with that yarn.

i think you are going to have to go down to some pretty small needles OR figure out how to use fewer stitches to start with. Going down so far in needle size could make the yarn pretty hard to work with, and figuring out how to get the same hat with fewer stitches makes my head hurt.

the pattern says that the yarn is worked doubled throughtout the hat, but i didnt do that I just have a bulky yarn, I can’t find the label to it. I think it called Quick and its a wool blend. But the yarn i want to use for the next had is red heart light & lofty. Oh and the pattern is from The yarn girls guide to simple knits book.

hmm, I say try to get the gauge they ask for with just the one yarn you have (if they list the doubled thickness gauge) and see if it works out
