help with a fairly simple pattern

hi all,
I’m a relatively inexperienced knitter and I tend to really struggle with visualizing decreases. I’m working on a “vintage” pattern, the Sirdar Cardigan, and I could just use some help interpreting this part of it to make sure I’ve got it down.

proceed in
st-st until work measures 16.5inches, ending on wrong side. (I’ve got this down; just stockinette.)
Shape Armholes
Cast off 4sts at beg of next 2 rows (question- do i do two more rows of plain stockinette for this?)
Work 60 rows rows dec once at each end of next and every alt row. (So- Do I just knit one row with decreases at the start and end and just keep doing this every other row I knit?)
Thanks so much in advance! I’m probably overthinking this. (And you’re probably going to see me again, because there’s a spot later on in the pattern involving pockets that makes no sense to me…)

Yes, sounds like you’ve got it.
Continue in stockinette, cast off 4 at the beginning of the right side row, then cast off 4 a the beg of wrong side row.
Deceease 1 stitch and begining and end of next and every alt, is just what you said, every other row. This will be the right side row for the dec then work the wrong side with no decreases. Dec again on th right side and so on.

Depending what you are making you might want to put the dec a stitch in from the edge, so it is not right on the very edge, this is usually a bit neat neater and makes the edge easier to seam if it’s seamed together later.

What is the name of the pattern? Or do you have a link?

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate the confirmation. This is the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1496261333/mans-easy-cardigan-waistcoat-raglan?transaction_id=4058097010 It’s been very straightforward so far, so I’d recommend it. I’m just a self taught knitter, so my knowledge is very limited, lol. This project us going to be my first time knitting pockets, and I honestly can’t see how it’ll work- maybe it makes sense to someone else? The pattern says:
Knit a separate pocket lining with some ribbing. (this makes sense to me.) Then, when I’m doing the left front, there’s a “divide for pocket.” It says:

S1, k12, slip next 23 sts onto a thread, work across 23 sts of pocket lining as follows: k23, k7.
Next row: Slip 1, purl to last stitch, k1.
Continue in stocking stitch to work up front of cardigan.
I guess what I don’t get is the term “divide for pocket.” I’m struggling to understand why I can’t just knit up a little pocket and sew it to the front, you know?

Pocket linings as opposed to the main body of the sweater are the key. I do a lot of hand waving to explain this but this video makes it much easier to understand. Whether you put the sts of the body on a thread or bind off, it’s much the same. See if it helps. The video is about 1/4 of the way down the page.

This makes a very clean looking pocket that is part of the sweater front. You can certainly make a patch pocket if you’d prefer that method.

Thank you so much!! That video was awesome, everything just clicked in my brain- thanks again!!
