Help with a British Pattern

Not sure if this is common with British Patterns, but I’m super confused and every time I read it and reread it I’m getting even more confused. I need help understanding this pattern:

Jody Long. Designer
Pattern Name - AMANTA
I’m making size 6-12 months (first number after the brackets)

Beg with K row, now work in st stitch as follows:

Dec 1 stitch at each end of the 7 (9th: 5th: 9th) and 1 [2: 3: 3:] foll 10th rows 50 [56, 62: 68] sets.

So the way I understand the pattern is do my decrease at the beginning and end of the 9th row but not sure what they mean after that I’m so lost and confused.

The pattern also doesn’t tell you what type of decrease to make, I just assumed K2TOG.

Hello
I’m not sure that this type of instruction is limited to British patterns, they are quite common and can be tricky to underrated until you get used to them.

Dec at both ends of the 9th row and then rows 19 and 29. These are the 2 following 10th rows.

Possibly a typo in your message, I think the last word intends to be stitches rathers than sets, so you end up with 56 stitches.

You can use k2tog or you can use mirrored decreases with a k2tog and an ssk or skpsso. Depending which way you prefer your decreases to lean you might do an ssk at the beginning of the row and a k2tog at the end. You might also like to place them 1 stitch in from the edge, this is personal preference.

Hope this helps. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
