I was watching Knitty Gritty and was seriously trying to cast on to an “O” ring to make the belt. I looked at the pics on the DIY website but they are unclear to me and I can really see how to cast on to the ring. With my many attempts, I have just come out with a bunch of loops that won’t form around the ring. :??

I figured this one out. I can’t really explain how to do it though. I will have to try it again and again.
I haven’t seen the episode, but if I were to do something like this, I would do a single crochet over the ring, and then pick up my knitting stitches in the top loops of the crochet.
The trick is to “knit on” to the ring. You can’t just pick up the stitches, you have to pick up the stitch around the ring, then knit that stitch. Then repeat.
